The Stock and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), in collaboration with the National Institute of Securities Market (NISM), has introduced a free Investor Certification Programme.
This voluntary certification has been launched with the objective of helping investors in testing their knowledge of markets and investing, according to the market regulator.
Sebi said that this programme has been designed to assist individuals in their journey towards gaining comprehensive knowledge about investing in the securities markets in India.

Goals of Investor Certification Programme
The programme has the following goals:
- To enable individuals to develop a basic understanding of concepts of finance such as saving, budgeting, investment and inflation.
- To help individuals understand the various schemes of the government.
- To allow individuals to have an understanding of securities market’s structures which includes primary and secondary markets.
- To make individuals aware of the role of stock exchanges, regulatory bodies and depositories.
- To help individuals learn about the risks linked with investment including market risks, credit risks and liquidity risks.
- To enable individuals to recognize the significance of due diligence, transparency and morality in investment decisions.
- To make investors aware of their rights and responsibilities, dispute resolution systems and disclosure requirements
