RBI Governor ranked top central banker globally

For the second consecutive year, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been rated “A+” among all the central bank chiefs around the globe. The governor was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who claimed that this demonstrated the governor’s leadership. 

Apart from RBI Governor, Denmark’s Christian Kettel Thomsen and Switzerland’s Thomas Jordan also received the “A+” rating from the Global Finance Magazine.

South Africa’s Lesetja Kganyago, Chile’s Rosanna Costa, Mauritius’ Harvesh Kumar Seegolam, Brazil’s Roberto Campos Neto, Morocco’s Abdellatif Jouahri, Sri Lanka’s Nandalal Weerasinghe, and Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Hong received the “A” rating from the magazine.

The “A-” rating was received by Norway’s Ida Wolden Bache, Peru’s Julio Velarde Flores, Philippines’ Eli Remolona, Sweden’s Erik Thedéen, and USA’s Jerome Hayden Powell, Canada’s Tiff Macklem, Costa Rica’s Roger Madrigal Lopez, Dominican Republic’s Héctor Valdez Albizu, European Union’s Christine Lagarde, Guatemala’s Alvaro Gonzalez Ricci, Indonesia’s Perry Warjiyo, Jamaica’s Richard Byles, Jordan’s Adel Al-Sharkas, Mongolia’s Byadran Lkhagvasuren and Cambodia’s Chea Serey. 

Global Finance magazine, which evaluated central bank governors for its “Central Banker Report Cards 2024,” assigned the rating to Das. The magazine published the names of the governors who received the highest grades—”A+,” “A,” or “A-.”

In addition to the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Bank of Central African States, and the Central Bank of West African States, the magazine took into consideration the central bank governors from over one hundred nations, territories, and districts.

PM Modi took it to X (formerly Twitter) to wish the RBI Governor and posted, “Congratulations to RBI Governor Shri @DasShaktikanta for this feat, and that too for the second time. This is a recognition of his leadership at the RBI and his work towards ensuring economic growth and stability.”
