Mobile Cyber Suraksha: Do’s and Don’ts of Cyber Security

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has provided a list of Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to mobile cybersecurity. Let’s check them out.
Do’s
- A record of IMEI number must be kept to help in registration of complaints and tracing of handset in case it is lost or stolen.
- Always lock your phone or keep a keypad passcode which restricts your phone’s access to others.
- Turn off mobile apps like camera, video players and connections like bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not in use to reduce security risks.
- Update mobile operating system on a regular basis.
- Applications must be installed from trusted sources only.
Don’ts
- Never leave your mobile phone unattended.
- Never put bluetooth in always discoverable/always on mode as the hackers can take advantage of this mode to launch attacks.
- Don’t connect to unknown or untrusted networks.
- Never keep sensitive information such as your passwords, bank details, etc. on your mobile phone.
- Virus affected data should never be transferred to other mobile devices.
