India ranks 63rd on WEF Energy Transition Index

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has released its global Energy Transition Index in which India has been ranked at 63rd position.

WEF said that India has shown significant improvement in energy equity, security and sustainability.

The top five countries that dominated the top ranks in Energy transition Index are Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland and France respectively. The neighboring country China has been ranked at 20th position in the index.

The World Economic Forum (WEF), taking note of a number of initiatives implemented in India, stated that the country is setting the standard when it comes to creating outcomes that can be replicated elsewhere.

It stated that in order to create a climate that will facilitate faster adoption, governments should also think about raising awareness and policy interventions, such as rules for energy-efficient physical infrastructure and financial incentives for retrofitting.

“The developing world has an opportunity to rewrite the rules and show the way to successfully transform energy demand — an example of reverse innovation is frugal, scalable innovation originating in developed countries and then scaled across the world,” WEF added.
